TESTING FOR CORONAVIRUS

I am able to offer testing for Coronavirus (Covid-19). There are two tests available; the ANTIBODY test, which checks whether you have been infected with Covid-19, and the ANTIGEN test, which tells you whether or not you currently have Covid-19 infection.

ANTIGEN
PLEASE NOTE THAT I OFFER THIS TEST ONLY FOR CLEARANCE FOR TRAVEL ABROAD, AS REQUIRED BY COUNTRIES OUTSIDE THE ESTABLISHED "TRAVEL CORRIDORS" OR FOR SURGICAL OPERATIONS. IT IS NOT FOR PEOPLE WHO SUSPECT THEY MAY HAVE THE INFECTION. IF YOU HAVE ANY OF THE COVID-19 SYMPTOMS (NEW COUGH, TEMPERATURE, CHANGE IN TASTE OR SMELL), YOU MUST UNDER NO CIRCUMSTANCES ATTEND, BUT MUST FOLLOW NHS GUIDELINES.

The antigen test is the PCR swab test for SARS Cov-2 RNA, and is the one required by health authorities. A single swab is taken from both the throat and nose and is sent to an accredited laboratory for testing. I will email you the result and a separate certificate (examples attached) and you need to both print these off and have a copy on your phone.

The results are almost always back within 48 hours, sometimes 24 (I always label them as "urgent"). For those who are visiting countries where the sample needs to have been taken between 96 hours / 4 days and 120 hours / 5 days, this should be plenty of time. For those visiting countries where the requirements are for a test to have been taken within 72 hours / 3 days, it can be tight, especially if you are travelling early in the week and the sample needs to be at the lab (in London) over the weekend. In this case, you may well need to arrange a courier to deliver to the lab (at your own expense) or take it down yourself. Please discuss with my secretary when you arrange the appointment. While I make every effort to insure the result is back in time (and I have not so far had any failures). I cannot accept responsibility if the laboratory is unable to process the sample in time for your travel.

The cost is £185 per test.

NHS testing is free, but
a) you almost certainly wont receive the results in time for travel;
b) you wont have a result with your name, date of birth, and time / date of sample;
c) you wont receive a certificate

ANTIBODY
This is a blood test, checking for the SARS-COV2 lgG antibody and is the ABBOTT CMIA laboratory test. It informs you whether you have previously infected. The test should not be taken before 3 weeks after the infection as antibody levels may not be high enough to be detected.
It is important to understand that we do not know what degree of immunity antibodies will offer against Covid-19, or for how long. So, even if you test positive, you should continue to follow all protocols for protecting yourself and others.

The cost is £95 per test.
